DESIGNERS

Choosing a web designer
Choosing a web site designer who is not suitable for your business can cause problems, waste your time and money and result in a web site that fails to improve your profits.
Generally you need to avoid choosing a designer who: -
a. charges you excessive annual fees for compulsory web maintenance;
b. does not offer ongoing maintenance and updating of your web pages;
c. designs web pages without optimising them for search engines;
d. claims possession of your web site or copyright over your web pages when you want to move to another webmaster or host;
e. designs web pages in FP* frames or with tables or Flash animations which prevent
or hinder search engines from accessing them;
f. does not understand how to promote your web site and increase its ratings with search engines;
g. is not qualified and experienced in copy writing and page layout or graphic design;
h. designs pages with too many large images or other features which slow down the loading of the pages;
i. cannot design web sites with their own search, security and e-commerce facilities;
j. designs web pages which are not attractive and easy to read and follow;
k. cannot link your web site to other sites on the internet to increase your
traffic;
l. uses the same page template for every type of web site;
m. offers you the use of free web building software or free templates but
prevents you from transferring your web site to another host or internet service
provider;
n. makes grammatical, spelling or typing errors on a web site or speaks with an
accent you cannot readily understand.
You may also need to avoid: -
a. Web hosts and billing companies who allow you to build a free website but charge you monthly for hosting or maintaining it,
who include the cost of your web site in their ongoing monthly charges, or who
pay commissions to affiliates who refer you to them.
b. Hosting companies which allow you to build a free web site using their restrictive software
or showing their advertising banners or popups on your home page which prevents search engines from visiting
it.
c. Internet service providers who give you long domain names or names with a "~" tilde, which tells search engines not to look at your site.
d. Domain name providers who sell you a web site address which ends with something other than ".com, .co.uk, .com.au, .net, .org" or whatever is usual in your country.
e. Internet shopping malls which allow you to build a free web shop if you stock it yourself with all the products they supply.
If you require only a personal web site, not a business site, some hosts offer free web sites which may suit you. However you may have to
design and build such a site yourself, it may be supported by advertising, may not have a
separate web address and may rank very poorly with search engines.
DESIGNERS
In designing your web site for you, Wallace Baker Promotions avoids such problems and
creates a web site custom made for your business. We keep within your budget and work to reduce your marketing costs and increase your sales turnover.
* FrontPage frames can hinder search engines and prevent high
ranking in search results unless you choose a web designer who knows exactly how
to use those frames for the convenience of your web site visitors while coding
pages to allow search engines free access through your web site.
